It will be just over 3 months since RoHS legislation came into force when this event will be held. SMART Group has invited speakers to update on what has happened and what other legislation faces our industry.

Prior to this date NWML promised a 'light touch but not a soft touch', that compliance would be through co-operation and there would be proportionate enforcement actions. We look forward to hearing what has happened in this short period.

'Meeting the Business Legislation Hurdle' Richard Waterhouse, Manager Components & Manufacturing, Export Controls and Legislation, Intellect. Richard is in the forefront of Intellect's approaches to HMG on the WEEE and RoHS legislation, as well as export controls.

'XRF Measurement of Residual Materials in Electronics'  Chris Hunt - NPL To ensure RoHS compliant materials comply, the industry is using XRF as a goods-in inspection tool, although the technical capability of these instruments is not well understood by the electronics manufacturing community. There are a range of XRF instruments available and a new NPL project has commenced to bring together interested parties to develop confidence in the XRF technique to deliver qualified data.

'WEEE Recycling - Best Practice in Europe'  Tom Perrett -Tin Technology/ Soldertec. Tom will present a short review of the recent DTI European Mission findings -  looking at collection, treatment, existing and emerging technologies. (Tom was a member of the mission).
