Livingston-based CB Technology, a specialist in high-reliability electronics assembly for small- and medium-volume applications, has made a major upgrade to its SMT capabilities by installing one of the latest MYDATA MY100LX14 pick-and-place machines. The new machine will enable CB Technology to work efficiently with a much wider range of modern components, and also to respond more effectively and profitably to its customers’ requirements for smaller batch sizes and faster deliveries.
Finding that it needed more flexibility from its SMT facilities together with faster changeover times to allow more efficient handling of small batches, CB Technology carried out a thorough survey of currently available pick-and-place machines and their suppliers. The company concluded that MYDATA and its machines was easily the best match for its needs.
Factors that particularly appealed to CB Technology were the proven high throughput of the MYDATA machines – the MY100LX14 can handle up to 16,000 cph and is readily upgradeable to handle 24,000 cph – and the ease of use of the Agilis feeders, which make it simple to achieve the fast changeovers that are essential for the profitable handling of small batch sizes.
Further factors that were of particular interest to CB Technology were the ready availability of expert local support for MYDATA equipment, and the overall quality of the company’s support services, which are focussed on helping users to consistently get the best possible return on their investment in MYDATA equipment.
The MY100LX14 supplied to CB Technology has up to 176 feeder positions and is capable of placing components from tiny 01005s to complex QFPs and flip chips. While a very capable performer in its basic configuration, the machine is also easy to upgrade with options that include a high-speed mounthead, and a linescan vision system that significantly increases placement speed for fine-pitch components.
