APEX Reflects a Vibrant and Healthy Industry

IPC APEX Expo certainly left Las Vegas with a bang. The healthy show floor reflected the optimism, and in some cases the orders, being received by exhibitors throughout the three-day event.

Global SMT & Packaging had an extremely successful and busy show, meeting many of our readers and interviewing many suppliers showcasing new products.

Two highlights of the show were our video debates. The first, Factory automation – how do companies get started and what are the next steps? was lively and a little controversial.

There has been much written about factory automation, Industry 4.0, Smart Factory 1.0 etc. This debate discussed what practical steps companies should take to plan their automation journey?

Our second debate delved into the hotly contested political arena. Given the topic, I am pleased to say our panelists were well-behaved and indeed humorous at times. How will elections in USA and Germany change the EMS landscape?

Offshoring and reshoring are driven by, among other things, taxes, environmental legislation, logistics and proximity to the end user. The debate discussed how the upcoming elections in USA and Germany might affect the electronics manufacturing industry? Who will benefit and why? It also discussed Britain’s impending exit from the European Union.

There is a lot to read in this issue, especially around the subject of factory automation. We hope you enjoy it and welcome your feedback.
