Precision dispensing and dosing with preeflow from Intertronics

The method of using a positive displacement technology for the dispensing or dosing of liquids can bring many benefits to those for whom repeatability, precision, reliability and accuracy are important. preeflow volumetric dispensing pumps have found applications in sectors such as electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, medical device assembly and pharmaceuticals – from the application of small quantities (microlitres) of adhesive to the dosing of fluids into vials. The use of a preeflow eco-PEN, triggered by a foot pedal, gives the assembly operator more control of this intricate operation and confidence in the adhesive amount. preeflow volumetric pumps dispense from the microlitre range on up, to an accuracy of +/- 1% independently of viscosity, while exhibiting low shear force on any media. They can dose continuously at rates up to 60ml per minute. The direction of flow can be reversed leading to clean cut off of the material, preventing drips or stringing.

Christian Koenen opens new branch in France

Europlacer expansion continues with new distributor in Poland

Europlacer has appointed PAKT Electronics as its exclusive distributor in Poland. Formed in 2008, PAKT is well connected across the country and represents other principals in the territory, offering capital equipment, peripherals and consumables. As part of its remit, PAKT Electronics will deliver Europlacer after sales support services and applications expertise across Poland. Service engineers from the company have already undertaken intensive training at Europlacer’s European HQ. Founder and co-owner of PAKT Electronics, Lukasz Kazmierczak, points out that the Polish electronics sector continues to develop thanks to favourable labour costs, easy access to qualified and skilled employees, and also the availability of EU funding programmes.

Infineon’s acquisition of Wolfspeed just the beginning

The agreement in mid-July for Infineon Technologies AG of Munich, German to acquire the Wolfspeed Power & RF division of Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA for $850m has drawn a lot of attention in the compound semiconductor world. The deal also includes the related SiC wafer substrate business for power electronics and RF power electronics. The power electronics industry landscape is evolving, and consolidation is increasing, noted Yole in its report ‘Status of the Power Electronics Industry 2016’ (issued in June). International Rectifier and Infineon Technologies, Fairchild Semiconductor and ON Semiconductor, Wolfspeed and APEI … Now, Infineon and Wolfspeed. Indeed, the Infineon’s acquisition of Wolfspeed occurs amidst a power electronics industry where silicon carbide (SiC) technology benefits are well known and where business opportunities have been clearly identified by industrial companies. In its latest compound semiconductor technology & market analysis report ‘Power SiC 2016: Materials, Devices, Modules, and Applications’, Yole Développement forecasts that the market is rising at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19% from $200m in 2015 to $550m in 2021. “Wolfspeed and Infineon Technologies are leaders in the SiC power devices industry. The combination of both players will clearly strengthen the leading position of Infineon Technologies in the SiC power business,” notes technology & market analyst Dr Hong Lin.

New thermally conductive adhesives from Intertronics

The latest applications in energy and electrical engineering require ever higher levels of thermal conductivity, hence a new generation of thermally conductive two-part epoxy adhesives from Intertronics. These new high performance adhesives offer excellent thermal conductivity, so enhancing the effectiveness of heat paths found in applications such as LED heat sink attachment, chip assembly, encapsulation, potting of thermal sensors, assembly of power modules, connection of pipes in heat exchangers and the bonding and potting of battery cells and electric motors. They can help optimise production processes with a choice of accelerated thermal cures in about 15 minutes or 24 hours at room temperature. A good example is Polytec TC 433, an advanced semi-rigid boron nitride filled adhesive. It features 2 W/mK thermal conductivity and a glass transition around 110°C after thermal curing, withstanding up to 220°C continuous operation temperature.

Camtronics, S.A. purchases Scienscope X-Scope 2000

Scienscope International announced the recent sale of an X-Scope 2000 to Camtronics, S.A., a contract manufacturer for the aerospace, medical, telcom, and industrial sectors. Camtronics recently purchased an X-SCOPE 2000 X-Ray Inspection System from Scienscope: a full featured, high-performance x-ray inspection system with an unbeatable price-to-performance ratio, which includes all of the advanced features you would expect to find on a much more expensive x-ray inspection system. “The Scienscope X-Scope 2000 is a great technological advancement in X-ray inspection. Such an advanced machine is typically not so easy to use but the X-Scope 2000 was very easy to learn, and very flexible for daily use in a contract manufacturer environment,” commented Federico Ortiz, Business Development Manager, Camtronics, S.A.

Juki earns outstanding performance award

Juki Automation Systems (JAS), Inc., announced that Juki Automation Systems Europe won an outstanding performance award as the highest performing company in the Juki Group for the first half of 2016. “The Juki Group continually strives for quality and customer satisfaction. Metcal appoints sales manager for the UK and Eastern Europe

Metcal announced that it has appointed Neil Edwards as the Regional Sales Manager for the UK, including Ireland and Eastern Europe, for Metcal. Edwards will report to Rick Nuttall, Director of European Sales, OK International Ltd. An industry veteran, Edwards brings more than 33 years of experience within the electronics industry. His work experience includes working in the fast moving high-reliability, high-performance Formula 1 environment with McLaren Applied Technologies. Initially as a skilled Technician, but in recent years as the Manager of the Electronic Production Department, managing resources on a daily basis to achieve production deadlines and maintain quality as a premium asset of the business. Edwards also has a wealth of experience producing electronic control systems for the automotive racing industry and more commercially orientated customers in the railways, aerospace and high reliability conscious health care segment. He brings to Metcal a passion for high-quality manufacturing and first-hand experience implementing Metcal’s products into leading-edge assembly processes. Commenting on the appointment, Metcal’s Rick Nuttall said, “Neil is a seasoned professional with a proven successful track record in the electronics industry. He brings a strong technical background which will be valuable in further developing Metcal’s relationships with our end user customers.”

European Research Center orders etch and deposition systems from Plasma-Therm

A major research institution has placed orders for two Advanced Vacuum plasma processing systems that will provide etch and deposition capabilities to be used in nanoelectronics research and development. The order by imec, a Belgium-based, global nanoelectronics R&D center, is for two Advanced Vacuum Apex SLR systems. One will be configured with an inductively-coupled plasma (ICP) source, with the other configured for high-density plasma chemical vapor deposition (HDPCVD). Apex SLR systems incorporate a field-proven, high- density plasma source that was developed by Plasma-Therm, parent company of Advanced Vacuum, for its widely used Shuttlelock line of plasma tools. Imec is an internationally renowned research institute that works with global partners on many types of nanoelectronics-based innovation. Imec is headquartered in Belgium and has offices in the Netherlands, Taiwan, USA, China, India, and Japan. Dr. David Lishan, Director, Technical Marketing for Plasma-Therm, noted that “Plasma-Therm has a long history supporting R&D institutions, and this order continues that tradition.
