Electrolube extend in-house testing facility

Electrolube has recently invested in a cutting-edge Thermal Shock Chamber, enhancing its sequential in-house testing capabilities. The test laboratory grade system can achieve a rate of change of temperature close to 40°C per minute, and has a working temperature range from -65°C to +200°C, facilitating severe testing of electronic assemblies, representative of real environments, which is particularly critical for those destined for military and harsh automotive applications. A thermal shock chamber cycles rapidly from low to high temperatures to study how test specimens, contained within the chamber, cope under such conditions, including the effects of rapid expansion and contraction on PCB substrates, coatings and adhesives. The hot and cold cycles make the test subject expand and contract rapidly. Due to the variety of thermal coefficients of expansion of the materials used in the construction of a printed circuit board (PCB) this places significant stress on the test substrate. If the item is coated with a conformal coating or encapsulated with a resin this can often crack due the accelerated change – effectively a ‘Thermal Shock’; when a material just can’t catch up to the rate of the environmental temperature change surrounding it.

High performance adhesives from Intertronics

The new adhere series of two-component methyl methacrylate adhesives offers primerless, superior-strength bonds on most metals, thermoplastics and composites with fast room temperature cure times in the order of 9-15 minutes. This speed of cure is of great benefit in short cycle time production schedules where these high strength, lightweight adhesives produce durable, high impact structural bonds for a wide range of manufactured products. They are resistant to weathering, salt spray and QUV radiation, as befits their development in the automobile industry where they are used worldwide in the production of plastics assemblies. The benefits of IRSL&L A-K083 and A-K085 high performance adhesives are now available to the wider manufacturing arena through Intertronics, with this series available in clear and black. They are convenient and easy to use (with a mix ratio of 1:1) on most metals, thermoplastics and composite substrates, including carbon steel, stainless steel, electrogalvanized steel, hot dip galvanised steel, Aluminium, ABS, fibreglass and sheet moulded composite. In addition, they are non-flammable and low odour with low shrinkage. For further information please see or visit their blog at

Optically clear epoxy adhesive from Intertronics

Opti-tec 5013 high performance, two-part epoxy from Intertronics is a water white clear general adhesive for bonding glass, ceramics, plastics and metals as well as some optical and opto-electronic applications. It ensures strong, clear structural bonds, including for repair and restoration where aesthetics are a priority. It can also be used for small volume potting and encapsulation. Opti-tec 5013’s medium viscosity provides good gap filling characteristics, whilst its high surface energy enables wetting and wicking between surfaces – before and during the cure cycle. At room temperature, handling strength is achieved in 30 minutes, with full cure time taking just two hours. This can be accelerated to ten minutes at 65°C. Opti-tec 5013 is supplied in convenient side-by-side double cartridges.

AS9100 Rev C 2016 audit success at Ventec’s UK facility

Ventec International Group announced that its European Headquarters in the United Kingdom continues to be fully accredited to AS9100 Revision C, in accordance with the Aerospace Supplier Quality System Certification Scheme. Re-certification was granted after successfully passing the 3-year audit of the facility’s quality management system with zero non-conformances. PCB fabrication customers servicing the aviation, space and defense industries can continue to rely on Ventec’s fully accredited supply chain for high reliability laminates and pre-pregs. From manufacture through fabrication and delivery, Ventec’s high quality product portfolio of polyimides, high reliability FR4 and its latest ‘tec-speed’ range of high speed/low loss materials are all covered by the accreditation. Mark Goodwin, COO Europe and USA commented: “Our accredited supply chain complements the AS9100C quality management systems of our PCB customers, enabling aerospace OEMs to engage Ventec as a strategic partner in their safety critical supply chains, based not just on the proven performance of our materials but on our commitment to managing delivered quality to the highest standards.”
