Apple Finds Supplier For iPhone 8 Wireless Charging Components In Lite-On Semiconductor
The highly anticipated iPhone 8 may feature wireless charging capabilities thanks in part to a company that is based in Taipei, Taiwan.
Lite-On Semiconductor Corp will be providing Apple the necessary components that will allow the iPhone 8 to charge its batteries without the need for wires. If this comes to fruition, Apple is set to change the game once more with its 10th anniversary iPhone.
Apple Insider has learned that Lite-On received “half of the orders for GPP bridge rectifiers”.Bridge rectifiers are used to lessen thermal issues and keep wireless power transmission functioning efficiently. The source of the news, “Commercial Times”, also mentioned that the said components “will be used in the wireless charger for the upcoming iPhones.”
Reading into the statement, Apple is not only planning on releasing on releasing more than one iPhone real soon. This may be confirmation of the rumor that Apple will launch three new handsets in 2017 including the iPhone 8, the iPhone 7s and possibly the iPhone 7s Plus.
As for wireless charging, this feature has also been rumored before. It has been said that Apple’s partnership with Energous is an indication of its plan to go wireless with its next flagship phone. Energous has an over-the-air charging technology that may be the main reason why Apple is working with Energous.
According to Mac Rumors, Lite-On share price in the Taiwan Stock Exchange reached its daily 10 percent limit when the news broke.
The iPhone 8 is expected this year but little is known about it aside from the many rumors and probably leaks. Among the supposed features of Apple’s next flagship is an all-screen wrap-around design in which the home button, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, FaceTime camera, and even the earpiece are embedded within. The next iPhone has also reportedly attained an IP68 rating which makes it more resistant to dust and water. Other rumored features include an iris scanner, 3D lens camera, and VR/AR capabilities.
